(VOV) -Vietnamese women made their Asian Games history on September 26 after overwhelming their Thai arch-rivals 2-1 in a much awaited match and cruising in to the semi-finals.
Thailand’s high-tempo start showed they sought to take control of the game, expecting to book a place in the semi-finals. And they did throughout most of the first half.
Thailand continued the second half with more zest, pegging the Vietnamese back on their own turf.
Striker Romyen dribbled the ball past Bui Thi Nhu of Vietnam in a lightning attack to fire home from inside the box on 51 minutes.
Two minutes later, Nguyen Thi Lieu responded with a superb long drive, equalising the score for Vietnam.
Lieu’s goal stimulated Vietnamese players to perform well. They were awarded a penalty shot on 65 minutes after Nguyen Thi Nguyet was fouled in the box. However, Tuyet Dung failed to hammer in.

It was Tuyet Dung again who rectified her mistake two minutes later by latching on to a pass from teammate Nguyen Thi Nguyet and lashing in her own goal to complete an awesome afternoon for the striker.
Vietnamese players looked comfortable in repelling Thai attacks and successfully defending their net till the referee’s last whistle.
Vietnam will meet winners of the match between Japan and Hong Kong in the semi-finals.
