Overseas Vietnamese and foreigners who are spouses and children of a Vietnamese citizen can apply for a certificate of visa exemption that is valid for 5 years at the Embassy of Vietnam in Bangkok.

1.     For an overseas Vietnamese:

Documents that need to be submitted include:

+ An application form (online form:

 http://mienthithucvk.mofa.gov.vn/%C4%90%C4%83ngk%C3%BD/Khaitr%E1%BB%B1ctuy%E1%BA%BFn/tabid/104/Default.aspx);

+ 02 photos sized 4x6cm of which one photo is attached to the application form;

+ Passport that remains valid for at least one year and one certified copy of passport;

+ A long-term permit to stay in Thailand;

+ ONE of the following documents that prove your Vietnamese origin, including: passport or identity card, or birth certificate which indicate a parent or both parents are Vietnamese citizens, household registration book, polling card or voter's card, citizenship registration paper and citizenship maintenance certificate issued by the Embassy of Vietnam (these documents need to be certified or submitted with the original copy). Documents in languages other than Vietnamese and English need to be translated into Vietnamese, which need to be notarised.

2.     For foreigners who are relatives of a Vietnamese citizen:

Documents that need to be submitted include:

+ An application form (please find attached);

+ 02 photos sized 4x6cm of which one photo should be attached to the application form;

+ Passport that is valid for at least 1 year and a copy of the passport;

+ ONE of the following documents to prove the relationship with the Vietnamese spouse: marriage registration paper/Family record- copies of these documents need to be submitted together with the original documents or need to be authenticated. Documents in languages other than English or Vietnamese need to be translated into Vietnamese and be authenticated by relevant authorities.
